1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account:
- Email address - For account identification and communication
- Password - Encrypted and securely stored
- OAuth provider data - When using Apple, Google, or Microsoft sign-in (name, email, profile photo if provided)
1.2 Usage Information
We automatically collect:
- Fact check queries and results
- Usage statistics (number of checks, search queries)
- App interactions and feature usage
- Device information (device type, OS version, app version)
- Error logs and crash reports
1.3 Content You Submit
When using the service:
- URLs and web content for fact-checking
- Text content you paste or share
- YouTube video transcripts
- PDF documents (content extracted for analysis)
- Chat messages with the AI assistant
1.4 Payment Information
- Apple In-App Purchases: Processed by Apple. We receive transaction receipts and subscription status only.
- Stripe Payments: Payment details handled by Stripe. We store only subscription status and plan information.
1.5 Guest Mode Data
When using Guest Mode (no account):
- Data stored locally on your device only
- No server-side tracking or storage
- Limited to 10 recent fact checks
- Automatically deleted after 7 days or when app uninstalled

BYOK (Bring Your Own Key): When using your own API keys, they are stored locally on your device and never sent to our servers. Your interactions with these services are governed by their respective privacy policies.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Storage Locations
- User accounts: Supabase (US servers)
- Fact check history: PostgreSQL database
- API keys (BYOK): Local device storage (encrypted)
- Guest data: Local device storage only
4.2 Security Measures
- All data transmitted via HTTPS encryption
- Passwords hashed with industry-standard algorithms
- API keys encrypted in secure device storage
- Regular security audits and updates
- Access controls and authentication requirements
4.3 Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- Fact check history: Retained indefinitely unless you delete your account
- Usage logs: Retained for 90 days
- Deleted accounts: Personal data deleted, analytics anonymized within 30 days
5. Your Privacy Rights
5.1 Access Your Data
View your account information, subscription details, and fact check history in the app.
5.2 Delete Your Data
Delete your account at any time through the Account screen. This action:
- Permanently deletes your email, name, and user ID
- Removes all payment and subscription data
- Anonymizes analytics data (user association removed)
- Cancels active subscriptions
- Cannot be undone

5.4 Opt-Out Options
- Use Guest Mode (no server-side data storage)
- Use BYOK mode (API calls go directly to third parties)
6. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights:
- Right to Know: Request details about personal information collected
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of personal information
- Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell personal information
- Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate for exercising privacy rights

For users in the European Economic Area:

- Data Transfers: Data may be transferred to US servers with appropriate safeguards

- Data Anonymization: Upon account deletion, personal identifiers removed while analytics retained
8. Apple Privacy Requirements
8.1 Apple Sign In
When using Apple Sign In with "Hide My Email", Apple provides a private relay email address. We respect your privacy choice and communicate only through this relay.
8.2 iOS Privacy Labels
Our App Store privacy labels reflect:
- Linked to You: Email, user ID, usage data, identifiers
- Used to Track You: None - we don't use data for tracking
- Not Linked to You: Crash logs, diagnostics
9. Children's Privacy
FactCheck is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected data from a child, we will delete it immediately.
10. Cookies and Tracking
The mobile app does not use cookies. Our web portal (accounts.ideasquantified.com) uses:
- Essential cookies: Session management and authentication
- No advertising cookies: We don't use ads or ad tracking
11. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information:
- We will notify you within 72 hours of discovery
- Describe the nature of the breach
- Explain steps we're taking to address it
- Provide guidance on protecting your account
12. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international data transfers.
13. Changes to Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted with a new "Last Updated" date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
